Hello, Tom. I heard you talking to RJT about - - TW> I have an old Epson ActionLaser 1500 running on a Aotomatic Pronter TW> switch. But most newer Laser Printers don't like Switched. OR shaing of TW> any kind, Inclusing pass through ports like of hte old Parallel Zip TW> Drives. TW> in fact I am about to install a HP LaserJet 1200 for a group and the TW> specifications cal lout a Dedicated Port. This is mostly becaeu of the TW> extensive Bidirectional Communications the printers do under windows. Aaaahh - - good old Windows. It has to get its tentacles all into and around everything. TW> And HP has a Special Warning strongly discourging the use of Manual TW> Switch boxes because of the chance of a Switching spike damage to the TW> printer input card. FWIW, HP have their own brand of printer autoswitch. One here is an "H-P Jetdirect auto switch For sharing 4 devices", so I think it will do either 4 to one or one to 4. I bought it for compatibility with the Deskjet 890C. It may be older than when they started using model numbers like 1200 for the Laserjets. My newest laserprinter is a little LJ 4L, and it works OK with the HP autoswitch. I think I have a manual for it around here somewhere, but can't find it right now, so I can't say what they may have said about using it with their laserjet printers. ttyl - - - JimH. ...
