Shoutcast streams work fine here (most of the time) with PM123 as a
Firefox helper app. I have mimetype audio/x-scpls, extensions pls, open
with PM123.exe. The PM123 dlls have to be on the LIBPATH. AIUI, the
browser downloads the link target, which has to be a Shoutcast playlist,
and passes it to PM123. PM123 parses the playlist, identifies the stream
URL, connects and streams.
However, PM123 used as a stand-alone app won't stream directly from a
Shoutcast URL. You have to download the link target yourself to a file
and pass the file to PM123's 'Open File' dialogue.
As for other stream types, I've found nothing that can handle ogg
streams within a browser. However, ogg123, from the ogg-vorbis package
on Hobbes, and WarpVision can both play ogg streams when invoked from
the command line with the stream URL as a parameter.
