DT>Agreed....but I do hate that saying...all children can learn....it
DT>suggest that if kids don't know something it's the school's fault. It's
DT>so easy to blame the school for every failure. Forget the breakdown in
DT>society and the unfair advantage the wealthier schools have over poorer
DT>districts...it's not society fault...it's the school's!
I agree that this is not all the fault of the schools, but where we
fall down is in promoting and graduating children with sub-standard
skills. We must either provide alternatives for these kids or tutor
them and bring them up to an appropriate level.
DT>You can't bring a child up to speed when they are unable. Surely you
DT>understand this. The powers at be can "new-think" all they want. It
DT>changes nothing.
Ah, but I'm not sure that's so. Have we ever really tried? Does
your school really link promotion to achievement, or is it an age
thing? We don't make the link - just tossed a kid out of our middle
school who's 16 and wanted to drive to school.
DT>This is currently our motto....at least for now....we have the t-shirts
DT>too! Did you buy one? I passed on it. I have too many t-shirts as it
DT>is. The one I like best says: "Plays well with others"
No t-shirts for me - I'm a little too overweight to look good in one .
