I'm finding a pattern: it doesn't like being tossed into the
background under dv, it will crash back to the dos prompt with an
Undefined Error within a few seconds. I've tempfixed it by telling
dv that pp can't run in the background. Hasn't failed since. Means
it won't do background comms, but that's not a priority at the
moment.
