PA> Why would any sentient being want to watch other sentient beings
PA> poison themselves?
PA> You're falling into the old fallacy of assuming aliens are like
PA> humans. ;)
Nope. I was joking.
MH> What's the 1944 reference? I recall Adamski talking about that sort
MH> of thing, but he didn't get started until the 50s. Or did he? I
MH> don't remember.
PA> I have no idea. I was referring to one of Carl Sagan's discussions
PA> of alien abduction, where he notes that aliens allegedly often show
PA> their victims ghastly films/slideshows of what will happen if humans
PA> continue doing whatever it is this set of aliens is warning us about.
Hmmm... Hey, did anyone ever report that there were non-humans in those
macabre shows? Or creatures which were human but not quite *right*?
PA> He then poses the question: If they know what's going to happen if
PA> we don't chuck away nuclear weapons, why didn't they warn the
PA> Manhattan Project scientists back *before* they built the Bomb and set
PA> us on the path to destruction? Why didn't the warnings start until
PA> after everyone had too many bombs, and it would be really difficult to
PA> fix things?
To play on the other side for a moment, perhaps they don't even know we
exist until we start having fission explosions. No, that might not work,
because Scientific American reported on a natural fission reaction for
which there is great evidence in Africa....so if that's it, they would
have visited the planet, but long before there was human life.
You know, they might not think that it could be too difficult to fix things
no matter how many bombs we have between the various tribes. It might
be to them a matter of will rather than a matter of politics.
PA> He also asks similar questions about the other things aliens have
PA> brought warnings about (always long after whatever-it-is has passed
PA> manageable levels), and rounds it off with the general-purpose
PA> question: Why do they always give their warnings to some poor nobody
PA> who can't do anything but have a nervous breakdown? Why not the
PA> President of the United States? The Joint Chiefs of Staff? Whoever it
PA> is that runs Russia these days?
One might argue that all the warnings have the actions of indiviuals who
are slightly eccentric rather than the reports of abductees. Have any
who have broght back warnings from our Space Brothers ever had any
of the usual signs of a classic abduction?
Good questions. As usual, no answers.
Michael
