George, you are right, the war dictated fast production and all were asked to 
provide emgines and accessories on a rush basis. That might explain where the 
different manufacturers were coming in.
I do not think that CCW rotation would require a new Crank, but a different 
CAM shaft yes.
I know of still running Atomics here and they still deliver what they were 
meant to. If well treated, these little rascal will bury their owner. I have 
gaz in one of my sloop and there never is a smell of gaz in the boat. This is 
rule # ONE!
But if you need to re-engine, and have the extra $$, go for the Atomic diesel 
replaemment for sure.
