GP~Not necessarily -- we don't know WHAT their ultimate game plan is with
  ~tge Middle East -- maybe to just chip away at them, using them as a sort
  ~of "beat the dog before the lion" example before the rest of the world?
  ~(and/or maybe Desert Storm really was only about testing a few new
  ~military 'toys'. . .) :P

The world will let you be the big kid on the block as long as you
don't get carried away. They get away with their 'bullying' only
because they buy what they want rather than shooting people for it...
If they start taking over countries just to get their oil they'll
find out that being a super-power just means it takes more than
one other nation to take them down.

Americans have an overblown impression of how 'superior' their armed
forces are. They've found that out the hard way a few times in the past..
