OK - one last try :)

In the PM123 properties (player properties, not the program object 
properties) Settings page, do you have 'Start playing on file load', 
'Auto use playlist on add' and 'Auto play on use playlist' all checked? 
I've just found that having these unchecked gives the symptoms you describe.
