a discussion of "builders sand" Versus 'other sand".
I feel that unless the sand in question - river sand, ocean sand, 
roadside sand etc - has contaminants, it's probably better than 
loam, on account of the drianage.
Why not sweet-talk the foreman at a building site and see if 
he'll (1) tell you the source/type of his sand and (2) let you 
carry away a pail of it for experiments.
