Afghanistan was coming for some time (the big munitions' companies have
had lots of stuff stockpiled, and not enough in international trade to
keep their sales/profits as high as they'd like, so a war was inevitable
somewhere -- I thought for sure that China was going to be the target --
how was I to know that the USA's biggest terrorist organization(Al
Qaida)'s leader was going to blow the whistle on who was really
employing him, thus requiring his neutralization? :P
Active war makes these munitions industries in excess of 100 billion a
week! (And the White House KNOWS (after JFK and the complete lack of
investigation/accountability/reckoning) that to attempt to avoid war
when the $$ boys demand it, has downright fatal(and
unpreventable) consequences! :(
The war was coming -- it was just a matter of who, when, and where! :P
They've been leading up to one with China -- keeping China scared with
little stunts like overtly spying on them, then blowing up one of their
embassies in southern Europe (during the Kosovo fracas) -- it wouldn't
have taken much 'leaked' intelligence communications to put China over
the top to where they'd do something that looks like(in the public
eyes) THEY are provoking something, and NEED to be smacked down! :P
Why China?
They're just too damb BIG!!! :P
But a few well-placed nukes, bios, and/or chem weapons(which would, of
course, be determined to have been set off internally by insane Chinese
leaders who are upset at losing the war!) would seriously bring their
population size down to manageable levels, as well as opening the
country up to economic exploitation in a way not yet done! :(

RM> How many acres of hemp to feed the average car annually?
Dunno -- hemp grows very rapidly and is very renewable/sustainable on
existing unused farmland! (eg. the farmers who are being paid by DC not
to operate!) :P
So you give them real employment (stimulating the economy) as well as
cancelling a current fiscal drain!
Win-Win all the way!
Win-Win-WIN when you factor in the boon to the environment(locally &
globally!)

And/or off-planet fission/etc. production, microwaving the energy down
to us! (orbital fission reactors, oribital solar collectors, etc.)

Yup, you make a good point here -- if the US(et al) was not buying oil
at the rate they are, what then, of these people/nations? :P
BUT if the US just takes over completely, then the oil keeps flowing,
with the people laboring for US corporations!
(the regular citizenry are taken care of in this way; as for the rich
upper class, who would be taking a DRASTIC cut in standard of living,
they're not intended to have any real role/existence in the new regime,
in their former roles/status!) :P
