Am no expert, but there is no essential difference between what the two
labels refer to. Cro Magnon however brings with it a side-reference to the
place in France where traces of these relatively modern people were found;
and Homo Sapiens is merely a slapped-on and (very serious and
sophisticated-sounding;) Latin label. That's all.

Just one more comment: By adding one more "Sapiens" to form Homo Sapiens
Sapiens, some people feel sure we are talking about the very most modern
(recently evolved) type of humans -- that not only can but also *like* and
can get addicted to doing calculus, consider cohomologies, and designing
digital devices.

(BTW, I don't belong to that category of humans.)
