I do use more than 2 comm ports, and comm ports WILL share IRQs provided one
doesn't try to use both at the same time. Some more sophisticated hardware
now allows setting IRQs to a wide range of values. If you really need to
use a bank of COMM ports that's the way to go. Of course, there's never
enough IRQs (usually 15) in ANY machine for all the things one might want to
use; but judicious selection can usually overcome conflicts.
