These not announced and not warned for changes came with eCS 1.2 specificly.

There is worse. Meanwhile I've discovered why all these migrations went
south.

The desktop (Arbeidsoberfläche) directory has been moved to a directory
\home\default\desktop. That's the reason why my (as probably on all
other migrated systems having troubles) desktop didn't come up at the
end of phase 3. On my system there was (fase 3) a complaint about not
finding the desktop in the ini files, on other systems there was an
empty desktop etc, etc ... . Frankly, I'm amazed the migration seemed to
work on some systems.
Also, anyone having used desktop.cmd

http://www.taartenbakkerij.com/bestanden/deskid.cmd

in the past and/or the Unimaint counterpart is bound to have failed the
migration, as the desktop then is pretty much hardcoded to the root of
the boot.

On top of that, due to the change of the desktop's location, tools like
Unimaint can't work properly anymore (as they look for and act as the
desktop directory is in the root of the boot). And as Unimaint is about
the only commercial tool we have, this move sounds to me as pretty a
disastrous one.
And even more worse, at install there isn't even an option available to
keep the desktop at his normal location: the option "Default
directories" can't be unchecked, so you are stuck with these because Big
Brother has decided you'll be stuck with them.
You probably can get away with it by going at the end of phase 2 to the
system management and moving in the drives folder the desktop from
\home\default to the root. I'm not sure, coz after more or less 20
reinstalls of eCS1.2 I have had it.

Anyway, as this is a major alteration of the defaults with huge
consequences, there should have been a warning at least, and an option
to keep the defaults as they are.

The part I don't understand at all is: as eCS 1.2 is on the market for
over 1.5 years now, how can it be I'm the first one to point to this
problem? There have been plenty of reports about failed migrations,
wasn't it?
