Cellular respiration is a description of stuff observed. If you talked
about the "theory of cellular respiration", you would be
discussing current understanding of how cells work. It's not a general
theory about how the underlying components work in general. It doesn't
predict what would happen if you took the components apart and put them in
a different environment.

The theory of special relativity is an attempt to describe how things work
in general - here, there and everywhere.

Of course the statement "the sun will rise tomorrow" is more of a
fact than the theory of special relativity, but the latter will still be
shining long after our sun has blown itself apart.
