I missed this the first time you mentioned it - but Penta is 5, not 6 -
Hexa is 6: PENTAgonal (ie, Pentagon), HEXAgonal (hexagon).
They got PENTium from it being a 586 chip, and I >assume< they wanted
something just a bit jazzier for the name in order to attract the public
and boost sales - which it certainly did.
