TB> BT> Yes I do agree with you that SK should redoe sl,
TB> BT> and I think he should redoe all the movies from his
TB> BT> books.
TB>Some of the movies were fine for the big screen but they left alot out!
TB>Even Christine was abridged! John Carpenter is not a bad director but the
TB>movie had lost something in the translation from book to novel. :(
It's very difficult to put all of a book on the screen. Part of the
problem is that some things just don't translate - for instance, where
in a book it's easy to "listen" to someone think, it would be boring to
have the character just look out the window while we here his thoughts
going around. And most books would, if everything went into a flick,
produce four or five-hour movies - if not longer. And the usual length
is about two hours.
I don't mind so much that book-based movies aren't exactly like the book
as I do the all-too frequent movie that doesn't have any resemblance to
the book it's supposedly based on - *Dracula*, for instance (which was
actually an adaption of a stage play, which didn't exactly follow the
book in all particulars; however, that is a *classic* flick).
TB>Salem's Lot was an okay mini-series being the first King work done for
TB>television but it also lost something in the transaction (maybe due tot
he
TB>whole censurship issue...i'm not to sure) but a redoing of this movie in
TB>the 90's would be pretty darn good!
