Over the weekend, a great catalog came into my mailbox. I spent a good part
of Sunday ooh-ing, ah-ing, and writing down a lot of what was in it! This
wasn't just "a catalog"...it was a catalog and source of information.
This catalog specializes in U.S. History and the U.S. Government (sorry,
Canadians). It is more for kids older than 12, though there are a few items
in it for younger kids.
One of the reasons I wrote for this catalog, tho, were two books that I have
read that they publish. One is part of the "Uncle Eric" series on American
economics. "Whatever Happened to Penny Candy" was a book that was written so
an older child (or an adult with a non-mathematical brain) could understand
the free market economics system. Richard J. Maybury writes these 6 books,
otherwise know as the "Uncle Eric" series. I plan to purchase these over
time. Another
book was "How to Stock a Home Library Inexpensively", by Jane Williams. She
writes two others that this company publishes.
The rest of the catalog is filled with other publishers books with a
historical, economical, governmental, or geographical theme. These are
fiction as well as the non-fictional "textbooks" and "primary source of
information" type books. They have a good selection of historical fiction.
The catalog only comes out once a year, in May. So be sure to call now if you
want one...otherwise, the small print within says you have to pay for it.
