While digging a shallow grave, Robert bestowed upon us this wisdom...
RP> On 02-28-98, MICHAEL MCSORLEY declared to ROBERT PLETT:
MM> RP> Having read the Book, I'm not at all worried the scenario that you
MM> RP> fear will occur, but the one that will occur won't be avoided
ither.
MM> RP> Delayed perhaps, but not avoided. |-)
MM>Which scenario is this that may be delayed? The one where the mid-eastern
MM>countries become a parking lot? ;-) Or is it the smoking thing... X-I
RP> That complex scenario that includes, among many other things, that
RP> most often terribly mischaracterized, misunderstood, and overblown,
RP> great battle that will take place southwest of Nazareth on the Plain of
RP> Esdraelon and Valley of Jezreel, overlooked by Mount Meggido from
RP> which name of the battle is derived: Armaggedon. I was speaking of the
RP> scenario described in Revelation.
Oh, yeah. I forgot. I haven't "read the Book" in some time. Revelation was my
favorite part. I guess it fed my mildly paranoid tendencies pretty well...
MM> RP> This much, however, is certain to me: The delusional little Saddam,
MM> RP> who imagines himself to be Nebuchadnezzar, is *not* the greatest
MM> RP> danger.
MM>Please identify this Nebchadnezzar person for me; I'm a bit
MM>historically-impaired... :-)
RP> Nebuchadnezzar was the great king of Babylon who built the famed
RP> Hanging Gardens, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. It was
RP> he who invaded Judah and took its elite into Babylonian capitivity that
RP> lasted 70 years. Included among those captives were the prophet Daniel
RP> and his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, of Fiery Furnace
RP> fame.
RP> Babylon is located in Iraq, about 50 miles south of Baghdad, and has
RP> been under reconstruction at Saddam's direction for many years.
RP> Saddam has long imagined himself to be Nebuchadnezzar reincarnate,
RP> openly so, commissioning paintings and posters of himself depicted as
RP> such to promote the idea to the Iraqi populace and the rest of the
RP> Middle East world.
Boy, I keep forgetting all the historical sites that get recycled over and
over in camel country (no offense intended, not a racist)! I guess I should
o
back to school and take some history. I'd understand these things a bit
better.
Does Saddam intend to...wait a minute...wasn't there a mention in Revelation
of Babylon? Where's my New Testament? I've been staring at this computer too
long. I should sit down and read a book, for a change, like I used to.
Computer addiction has made me ignorant. 8-I I'll get back to you on this.
