Hi donna,
I was trying to understand your credit system and B.Ed. program..
DR> > New grads now have to complete a 2 year B.Ed. program
DR>In California, you get your B/Arts/Science/Music degree first, then take
one
  >more year (the "fifth year"). I can't describe it further since I'm a
In most universities the B.Ed programs are taken after the Bachelors
degree. But the one that I took was a concurrent one. That meant that I
took my B.Ed along with my B.A. In the first B.Ed year (my second B.A.
year) I took an 8 semester hour course for my practicum and
two 3 semester hour courses . I took 2 other 6 s.h. courses for my B.A.
during the Fall and Winter terms and another one in the summer.
In my 3rd year of my B.A. program (2nd year B.Ed.) I took another
practicum - divided into two 4 s.h. courses and one 3 s.h. course. I
believe I took another B.A. course that summer or the summer afterward.
In my fourth year, I concentrated on catching up with my B.A. courses -
5 courses (6 s.h.)- we couldn't complete our B.Ed before the B.A.
In my fifth year, I repeated the same number of s.h. for my B.Ed but
only had to take 2 6s.h. courses to finish my B.A.
Well I hope I got the semester hour thing right. Most of the full year
courses were 6 credits - the half year (one semester) ones were 3. It
was only Education and French classes that had 4 or 8 credits...at least
out of the ones that I took.
  >"transplant". To get *my* California credential, I went thru these steps
(I

Sorry, donna, you lost me already we don't have such terminology here.
so what is a Preliminary credential and the CBEST?
  >2. Granted a one-year credential. I had one year to take the NTE.
Ditto NTE?
  >3. After taking the NTE, I was granted a 5 year credential. I had to take
  >courses for a clear credential: mainstreaming, computers in ed, among
others
  >4. Took courses, applied for a Clear Credential. Granted.
Sorry...???????????? You'll be so sorry you replied by the time I'm
finished..... or maybe it should be sorry that I replied.....
  >5. Take 150 clock hours of seminars, workshops, and courses with

  >goals must be signed by a professional growth senior teacher or
administrato
  >6. Apply for 2nd clear credential. Repeat #5 every 5 years.
I guess you'd better e-mail me with further explanations - you have my
address. :)
