1237a0237971 tech Hello Mike - MP> Re: BlueWave, The BlueWave OLR is not Y2K and even with the 'patch' file it will make mistakes because of this non-Y2K condition. A better choice would be MultiMail. MM is very similar to BW but the maintainer is 'evolving' the MM code each year to keep it up to date and improve it. MM is free, BW is shareware. Trick is the author of BW disappeared some years ago and the legality of the one remaining location to get BW registered is questionable. Those who use BW have used it for some time and are accustomed to the interface and do not want to change. MP> I have been using this "capture" batch file because it MP> seems to be the easiest way to read everything offline. I MP> guess that qualifies it as an offline reader. 'Reader', yes. The OLR designation is a bit misleading. They are offline read & reply applications, not just 'readers'. The real advantage is being able to compose _replies_ offline and upload them using a protocol controlled upload (usually zmodem). To reply you can chose any WP that you are familiar with as long as it can save in standard ASCII text format or you can use an ASCII text editor. You can spell check and revise as many times as you wish then compress all of your replies into a ".REP" packet and upload using zmodem or whatever protocol your software and the BBS will allow. This also gives you time to research your replies if need be without feeling rushed. MP> I have only one phone line and I'm on the BBS and/or the MP> Internet between 6:00 and 8:00 AM. On the BBS I select the MP> ReadNonStop option which flashes the messages across the MP> screen, and on a daily basis is finished in about 1 to 3 MP> min., depending on how heavy the traffic has been. All the MP> messages are captured for offline reading and I'm rarely on MP> the BBS for more than 5 minutes. I'm sold on reading MP> offline even though this method may not be the best. :) ".QWK" is one of the OLRs methods of _reading_ offline. The BBS will compress all of the messages you have configured it to grab for you in a matter of seconds and offer this compressed archive for you to download (again usually zmodem). Once this QWK archive is written to your system the OLR can uncompress and read the messages allowing you to reply if you chose to. MP> I use pretty much the same procedure for the Internet (more MP> time for surfing, but it's paid for). If your methods are similar on the Internet you must be using a text-only browser? Keeping a log file is handy for those times when you can't recall exact numbers, dates, times, etc. that you found while online. :-) > > , , > o/ Charles_Angelich - DOS Ghost \o , > __o/ > / > www.undercoverdesign.com/dosghost/faf/ < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
