subject: RPA MVP/POY

Well, here we go again.:-)
In the next couple of messages, I'll present the final RPAs for qualifiers
and in this message, I will name my MVPs and POYs for each league. MVP would
be one from a division leader/wildcard team and POY is any player from any
team.
AL MVP - This is a close race but I'd have to name Juan Gonzalez over Albert
Belle (A case could be made for Jim Thome). Juan's RPA is higher and he
really did do a job on some of the contenders (Like the Yankees). There's no
shame in what Belle did and while he did deserve the award last year, he is
second this year.
AL POY - There is NO contest. Hands down it is Mark McGwire.
NL MVP - Another no contest. Ken Caminiti. The difference between Belle and
Gonzalez was 5 points but the difference between Caminiti and his closest
competitior, Brian Jordan, was 41.
NL POY - This was a close one between Bonds and Sheffield. Again, using Belle
and Gonzalez, you can see my thoughts. Belle and Thome tied while Gonzalez
was far ahead of any of his teammates. Bonds and Williams were right up there
while Sheffield clearly outdistanced his teammates. The big difference is
that Thome batted after Belle and Williams batted before Bonds. Williams was
taking away from Bonds so while Barry was the second best in the NL in RPA,
he was "robbed" by batting behind Williams. In a close vote, I give it to
Bonds over Sheffield.
