I first noticed it busing tables at a restaurant as a kid.  I stuck my
fingers into a cluster of glasses to put them in the cart and
"tasted" ice tea without looking at the content.  The sensation
BETWEEN the fingers seems to be able to distinguish between wood and
tobacco smoke.
