The fundamentalist/OT marriage is one of convenience. For example, if you don't like evolution because of what it says about man's connections with lower life forms, you can always cite Genesis. That explains why fundamentalists are so insistent on a literal reading of the OT. But the price they pay for that is that the literal reading makes fundamentalists look like fools.
