| subject: | Win98SE vs. WinME |
Hi Mike (of 1:2320/105), On , in a message to All you wrote: MP> I am not considering an upgrade to ME. Rather, a friend is giving me MP> a PC with ME already installed. I am wondering if I should leave it MP> installed or not. ;-) What is the speed of the CPU and the amount of RAM? If it is atleast 1.7ghz, and 256meg ram, maybe XP is a good choice. I have a 1Ghz 256meg desktop running WinME. It has been running quite nicely since I applied the adjustments that were recommended via the folks lingering at annoyances.org My next "upgrade" is to add a USB 2 PCI card and bump up the ram with another 256meg. While people around me with XP and Win98/SE machines are reporting all kinds of weirdness from time to time, my WinMe has been quite rock steady in performance. There are pre-enabled processes that should be disabled such PCHEALTH, Taskmonitor, and SchedulingAgent are the biggies. If the pc has more the 512meg ram, then there is another adjustment in SYSTEM.INI that is required. There are a few more.. but all that can be discovered by lurking at annoyances.org ...August --- FMail/Win32 1.60* Origin: http://www3.sympatico.ca/abo/yourstruly !
