system for bring the last few inches into position.

As your boat is a bit bigger than mine, that was going to be my
other suggestion on that. You could probably utilize a snatch
block at the bow to save having to fasten a permanent one there.

That's what I do with mine. BTW, I practiced the proceedure once
in my yard before attempting to look too foolish down at the
marina! After all, I'm still known as the "guy that turtled
in the bay".

Mine, of course, is a short step, with a helping hand from the
wheel fender. I've seen a few McGregor sailors that bring a
short stepladder to help them get up and in.
