Hi Dave,
I have a Trek 2200 from 1994 and love it. The ride and feel to me is
perfect and I'm also a long distance rider. Although I haven't been out
this year as much as I would of liked, I do long distance riding here in
New Jersey. (So far, I've done a ride from the very tip of NJ to the very
bottom (High Point to Cape May, 212 miles) 3 times, once a year for the
 last 3.. And oh, BTW, it's a 1 DAY ride. :-)
Try riding a Trek and Cannondale out your way for a short spin and see what
it feels like. I've heard the Cannondales are very 'stiff' and harsh for
long distances.. But, if you like the power feel, then it might be right
for you.. Although you butt might well suffer..
