| subject: | Win98SE vs. WinME |
Hello Mike - MP> Now, I have another question. I have read a lot from people who MP> say that Windows ME was not really an upgrade from Windows 98SE, MP> etc. MP> Can anyone give me some actual reasons that it was a MP> "backstep" for Windows? Were there any actual enhancements MP> over Windows 98SE? The ability to 'goback' to your original setup if an install goes badly is considered the _major_ difference (by me). MP> Best as I can tell, the one difference between the two is MP> that you cannot easily boot straight to DOS (via the F8 MP> startup menu) if you are having problems. But that is from MP> limited experience. That problem has been addressed by many websites (adding a real DOS to WinME). MP> I am not considering an upgrade to ME. Rather, a friend is MP> giving me a PC with ME already installed. I am wondering if MP> I should leave it installed or not. ;-) As with ALL Windows OS if you tweak it a bit, add some third party software, add a firewall, and do not use IEx nor MSOutlook you can use WinME with no more troubles than other Windows OS. Personally I would stick with W98SE on both machines. It would make life easier to patch/tweak/add to the same OS on both machines. Having said that, I prefer W2K over _all_ other Windows OS but that's just my opinion. :-) > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
