Hola Carol :) Friday December 06 2002 20:19, Carol Shenkenberger decˇa a Steven Horn: FTD>> Now that that is clearly defined, this is not Fidonet anymore bu FTD>> what is known as an "ensalada rusa" ... SH>> You will have to explain what an "ensalada rusa" is but did you not kn CS> Heck, I'm really really rusty but my mind comes up with 'mish mash' this CS> time a 'salad of mis-matching things that do not connect'. Heck few CS> messages ago I explained how rusty I am at spanish. My brain hasnt tried CS> to dig this up for ages (30 or so years!). I'm sure there's a more CS> accurate translation than my poor little brain can recall . Mish-mash sounds as close as one can get :) or hodge podge :) CS> Humm. Cuban 'Roossahh' in how it's said? Yes, /rroosah/ is the pronunciation we use, meaning russian. Though I'm sure this dish has nothing to do with Russia in the same way that calling a vegetable omelette a "tortilla espa¤ola" has nothing to do with the real thing :) Alex will probably tell us. CS> Gina (childhood CS> friend) had me at her house a few times and it also meant 'scrap CS> soup' as in what her grandmere tossed into the pot. You never CS> really knew if it would come out good until you ate some but it CS> was always good. Grandmere was quite a cook! Yeap, something quite similar. For us an "ensalada rusa" is a dish made with boiled potatoes and vegetables, all chopped in dices, and mixed generously with "mayonesa", or mayonaise. Tuna fish chopped fine can also be added together with whole olives without the seed :) CS> Felipe? Am I close? Or did I mis-match something I CS> barely recall? You certainly got the gist :) However, one thing is the _dish_ and a very different matter _the expression_ "es una ensalada rusa". And that means that some things of completely different nature and totally incompatible have been tossed together unjustifiably. Exactly as you defined it above :) The mis-matching bit :) Felipe :) --- Fastecho 1.45/GED/Fd 2.12* Origin: El Zoco BBS, Califato de Cordoba - Cordoba (Spain) (2:345/702) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 345/702 341/200 14 261/38 123/500 106/1 379/1 633/267 |
