A physicist named Paul Davies has written a book in which he comes very
close to saying that:

- The laws of physics explain everything we see.
- We don't need a god.
- However, maybe we do need god because the laws of physics are just
exactly what is required to support evolution and life.

I haven't read the book, but it sounds as if he has pondered the same sorts
of issues that you are referring to.
