You missed the first part of the conversation on this topic.
In a nutshell, it was about how HPFS was less vulnerable to nasty viruses.
The reason I gave, was that most viruses [that attack the disk itself] expect
to be on a FAT drive.

They are not MS-DOS compatible OSs. OS/2, Win etc. all have their own native
apps. MSDOS compatible OSs just run MSDOS programs.
