RM> Probably the best plan would be to take the defence budget RM> and put it into finding a cheap replacement for Oil... B) GP~Problem being that war is profitable -- Not so much profitable as stimulating to the economy. It gets people working and the country moving even if it's at a loss. I understand the US deficit last year was $300 Billion. That's ovet $1000 for every man, woman and child in the country or I'd Guess about $3500 for every working person. Take the number of new jobs created and the cost of the war and I doubt invading Afghanistan made them much profit. GP~-- and that budget you speak of is already done -- Hemp Oil could ~easily replace crude for our fuel needs and be ever-sustainable! One of the many that could replace diesel, which cars could be built to use. I'm not sure if some sort of gas to diesel conversion would be practical but conversions to Propane or Natural Gas are doable and 'Relatively' inexpensive.. This also assumes enough hemp could be grown to 'feed the machine' without giving up growing other things, like Food.. How many acres of hemp to feed the average car annually? Okay, spend the money finding clean cold fusion and use it to generate electricity and run everything on that.. You mentioned the war on drugs but I suspect with oil replacement it's more about wealthy oil producing or supplying American companies.. combined with the fear of what would happen should most of the world stop buying oil. A lot of countries have Nothing but oil to sell. Take that away and they'd have Nothing to LOSE and this tends to breed crazies and suicidal terrorists. And whether America is buying or Not buying oil, they will probably still be blamed for these countrie's problems and still be a target. It's tough being at the top of the food chain when there are a lot of hungry critters below you..
