This is true, but if something unforseen arises, for the price, a
barebones Dell is a pretty good deal, excluding the fact that the
sound probably won't work on os/2. To build yourself (this machine
is a homebrew smp) can be time consuming. It took me about 6 weeks
to accumulate parts for this machine. It takes less that 6 days to
get one from Dell. If you need something quickly, Dell might be
worth considering. Yes, homebrew was fun to build. Yes, I would
do it again. But I think the Dell Small Business machine is a very
good bargin. I had an unexpected need for another computer a few
months ago. $400 wasn't bad to get one in 4 days. Yeah, they have
my SSN, and so does most everyone else in spite of their being a
federal law against using it.

I had to call the water company last week. They wanted to know my
last 4 digits for verification. I came unglued, what is the water
company doing with my ssn and where did they get it? "Don't worry,
only the last 4 digits are in the computer".... Right!

The recent news with Lexis-Nexis and Counterpoint might be enuf to
push Congress to finally do something. All these companies have
been selling data for a decade now, you can bet your ssn is out
there in more places than you thought. Not that this is right,
it's just a fact.
