I think you might have mis-read us Mike. We aren't questioning the
accuracy of your post nor the seriousness of the incident, whether due
to human error or mechanical failure on the Glock. Nor are we
inhumanly attempting to redirect the thread away from the dilemma of the
person to the equipment involved.
Our concerns are that many of us carry that particular weapon... mine
personally is a model 22 .40S&W.... probably the same weapon in the
post. For many of us, again me personally, that choice was based at
least partially on the "fact" that the Glock is, by design, supposed to
be immune to this type of accident.
Now that doesn't mean that we are smugly playing racket ball with our
Glocks just cuz they won't misfire, but somehow, you've shown us that
just maybe we _were_ believing in a bit of false security. We may not
be consciously more careful... I'd like to believe that even with the
Glock, all those years of training have accounted for _something_ ,
but in the back of our minds will be the fact that IT CAN HAPPEN. Maybe
you've subtly reminded us of our own mortality. We are just reacting.
Please allow us to discuss the subject so that we can sort out our own
thoughts about it.
In the meantime, we do appreciate your continued updates on the status
of the officer involved.

Hindsight is always 20/20 and sometimes a bit educational. Give us the
benefit of the doubt... maybe we can learn from someone else's
misfortune.
