Yes - a computer virus was designed by a programmer with a purpose.

Evolution employs a totally different strategy. In evolution, you perform
random, small modification to all the properties of an object. Then you see
what happens.

If the modifications benefit the organism and are handed down to the next
generation, then the organism prospers. Life has no purpose!
