You are looking at volume or numbers, I'm looking at what came first,
second, third. The evolutionary order is what decides direction, not
volume. Volume is simply a function of reproduction ability and food
supply, habitation, etc..

Ok but consider this, I see lots of low tech cpu's in use but the most
advanced cpu's are few in number especially the very high end. Does that
mean there is no direction to cpu development? Direction of evolution works
the same way, numbers do not define it.
