 Actually that is not true. The tectonic plates press against each
other because there are mainly in the deep seas expansion of rifts
where lava bubbles out and solidifies.

 Earthquakes are due to the pressure between the plates that have
built up to the level where the plates have to move or shift.

 Did you forget your high school geology class?

 Both earthquakes and volcanoes are due to pressures, yes, but the
causes of thr pressures are different.

This is basic geology, something anyone should know.
