-> GM product. In the book called: The Atomic 4, the story is well
-> documented about this Atomic Cie that bought the bunch of Jeep motors
-> to convert them to marine use. And they still put-put along.
Jean: I tried not to state the engines were made by GM strictly, but
there were several manufacturers of this Willys engine. Atomic bought a
lot of them, I guess most were probably war surplus and made their own
conversions for marine use. But if I remember correctly the egine
electrics were Delco, and that way starters, distributors, and
alternators are Delco designed. Now the one thing I am not sure of was
if Atomic put different crankshaft in them so that they rotate in the
reverse direction. If that is the case the starters and distributors
would have to have their rotation reworked for the egines to operate
properly. Years ago I had a Lincoln arc welder that used a Continental
Red Top engine, it was strictly an industrial engine but again it was a
four cylinder probably identical to the Atomic engine.
I know they are quite popular and it wasn't until I got involved with
automotive retail, that I found out about the Atomic engine.
investigation on my part showed the alternator were Delco (GM), and if I
remember there were several alternator combinations. I guess dependant
on power requirements.
