I'm very modest! The difference I had in mind was entirely personal. If I
decide to cross the road, I will cross the road (or suffer some
misadventure due to a miscalculation).

As you are suggesting, my deepest emotional bliss or torment is of no
consequence in a wider context. Thoughts of the "Total Reality
Vortex" from the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy are appropriate
here.
