The Pelosi scandal reaches critical mass with the White House and the
Director of Central Intelligence maintaining that Madam Speaker is a
bald-faced liar.  Madam declines invitations to the Sunday morning shows to
discuss her sticky situation; she wants to spend time with her family, don't
you know?

The interesting thing about all this is the odd bedfellows it created.  Dick
Cheney keeps the heat on by asserting that enhanced interrogation worked to
stop further terrorist attacks (this, of course, causes Pelosi's mouth to
run), then Leon Panetta joins the vice president's team when he releases
briefing schedules showing that Pelosi knew of the interrogation methods -
including water boarding.  Madam Speaker is caught in a briar patch of her
own making as she dances to Cheney's fiddle - hilarious.  Obama/Panetta and
Cheney gave Madam quite a one-two punch.

I said yesterday that lying is a resume enhancer for democrats, and right on
cue, Tim Kane, DNC chair, comes to Madam's defense telling anyone who cares
to listen that Pelosi's job is secure.  Panetta has established beyond doubt
that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is a fucking liar and Kane
declares his confidence in her.  Amazing, ain't it?

Here's how this can resolve itself in Madam Facelift's favor - she must
either 1) declare that waterboarding is not torture or 2) admit that she
acquiesced in it.  There is no third option.

I suspect we will see the New York Times (probably) circle the wagons around
this pitiful woman and declare that while it is harsh, waterboarding is not
torture.  At some point, a member of Obama's courtier press (Time, Newsweek,
you name it) will ask the Divine O if he agrees with the NYT, and he will.
Voila!  Pelosi is off the hook.

But guess who else is?

An interesting footnote to all of this is that when she was pressed about
what she knew, Madam Speaker said that her job was not to see after the
country's business as Speaker of the House but to get democrats elected to
office.    Party before Country!
