Back in the Sixties this particular Pom had one wonderful summer in Cornwall.

Apart from the opposite, one experience sticks in my mind.  We'd parked up
near a beach and a lad drove into the car park with his girlfriend.  The
car was unusual, a "Coke bottle" Vauxhall Viva estate turned into
a convertible - the only one I've ever seen.  He roared into a parking
slot, but didn't quite line the car up properly.  So, with much blipping of
the throttle, he reversed and parked again.  He still wasn't happy, so he
blipped the throttle again and went back for another try.  Vroom, vroom.
But then he didn't come forward to park again.  We looked - he looked. Then
he sheepishly held up the gear shift lever, which had come away in his
hand.

It was some minutes before any of us could stop laughing long enough to help him.
