Alomar said nothing derogatory about Hirschbeck's son. Alomar, when
interviewed after the game, basically said he believed that Hirschbeck had
become a bitter man since his son died (other players apparently share that
view, BTW), and that it was a tough thing to go through. The media went off
half-cocked, told Hirschbeck bits and pieces, and Hirschbeck rushed the
Orioles' clubhouse threatening to kill Alomar (not exactly the action of a
stable person, IMO), who was about to apologize for his stupid spitting.
Hirschbeck was restrained by the other umpires. *adh*
