He likely should have been suspended from postseason play. However, the
system under which baseball runs is that suspensions for regular season
infractions don't apply to postseason games, and that players may play
pending appeal (due process.) Alomar didn't make the rules, and it's
ridiculous of the umpires and media to all of a sudden demand a change for
one incident, no matter how despicable.
His teammates don't condone the spitting, and likely feel he deserves to be
punished (probably for more than the five games he got), but Alomar is their
teammate, and I'm sure they'll stand by him. *adh*
