The following is taken from the November 1996 issue of
"Recreation News", the publication of the League of Federal Recreation 
Associations.  I have not checked on the accuracy of this report, but based 
on my experience with this publication it is probably true and accurate.
     "To induce you to help move its fleet of cars south to Florida for the 
winter, National Car Rental offers a "Great Florida Drive In" one-way rate of 
$9.95 per day for a mid-size or full-size car or minivan, with unlimited 
mileage -- and no drop off charge!
     The only hitch is that you've got to pick up a car in one of 61 National 
locations from New England through Washington, D.C.,Maryland, Virginia, the 
Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee and
Georgia and drop it off at any one of 20 locations in Florida. You must 
complete your trip within 14 days between Oct. 15 and Dec. 12.
     The return home?  Well, you're on your own.  Still
interested?  Call 800-227-7368, ask for rate code FLDR."

     It may be too late to take advantage of this program this year.  
However, it is not a bad idea to consider for the future. Also, there will 
probably be a time in the Spring when they will have a similar program to 
bring cars up North.  There might be a circumstance with low walk-up 
(one-way) air fares or possibly low rail fares where this would be a real 
bargain.
     Also, the other (major) car rental firms might be doing something 
similar, it might not be a bad idea to check with them.
