subject: Re: RSJ user questions

Al,

I've purchased the 6.0 release. But I have not installed it as yet.

The series of events went something like this...

Runing on a prior release of RSJ 5.x using Yamaha 2100S SCSI drive. I
didn't need to add the drive to the INF file. It just worked right out of
the box so to speak.

Dec 2005 - upgraded to RSJ 5.53
Yamaha drive still works fine.

March 18 2006
Installed the new DANI drivers (after the LOCK FLT)
Installed the DVD Writer.
(Old Yamaha is still recoginzed as a WORM device at this time.)

In this case, the new DVD drive works as a normal DVD ROM device. I was
able to read DVD Data disks just fine.

March 19 2006

Moved DANI drivers after the SCSI drivers, but before the LOCK FLT driver.

LOCK FLT driver notes both the Yamaha and the LITE-ON drives and changes
them to WORM.

The LITE-ON drive has an extra (BP) tag on it that the LOCK FLT dirver
does not report for the Yamaha. I have no clue whether this extra text is
of any consequence or not.

The Yamaha Drive still functions normally.

Both the LITE-ON and Yamaha drives are reported in both windows of the CD
Writer control dialog as WORM devices.

So the RSJ software knows something about the new drive.

With or without the altered INF file, the software behaves the same.

The Writer Control does not give me any choice of source WORM devices in
the dialog. I gather from your experience that it should.

I have an email into the RSJ support. But I believe they will only answer
during business hours. I might expect some answer by Monday afternoon or
evening at earliest.

I have not received the KEY for the new upgrade. So I'm holding off
installing it until I get the new key file. I know I don't have to. The
upgrade should allow the new release to operate in DEMO mode for 30 days.
I think I can wait for the new key anyway. After all, the DVD should be
supported in the 5.53 release as well.

If you can think of something I missed, please share.

If you have any ideas, please share.

If RSJ responds with information that allows me to get the DVD functional,
I'll make sure to respond here as well so others might know the
resolution.

Thanks for your help on this Al. I appreciate it.

-Mark
