Because, you will be purchasing a brand new modem.  There is no way they can
upgrade the hardware on a 14.4 modem.  Totally different beasts.  The 28.8 on
the other hand is new enough to just swap out the data pump to increase the
speed.

Hello Patrick... 
 
I called Supra and asked how much will it cost me to upgrade my 14.4 modem to 
 
33.6 . The information I got off of them was $163. Reading the echos I found 
out the cost to upgrade my 28.8 is $50. I thought in the upgrade you replace 
all the hardware in my modem anyway so why should there be a difference??
