What federal law? And what federal law requires us to have a SSI
number? It was not set up as a general ID number, though now it's
almost impossible not to have one since if you're born in a hospital,
the hospital applies for the SSI number for the infant. Many states
found if someone raises a big enough stink, they can still get a
drivers license without one. Now it's linked to so much of our personal
information, we cannot anymore protect our personal ID. It's all up to
anyone else. Doesn't that make you feel jiggly all over?

I have never given my power company my SSI number, if they have it it's
not from me. My wife though gave them her's one day, I was pretty
miffed. I tell them they've had my business for 20 years without it
they don't need it now.

Congress will never do anything in this case that benefits us. They'll
make all kinds of laws telling others to keep our numbers private, but
if you don't (wink, wink) we'll commission a study on it.

Hey by the way, the death tax comes back at the end of this year, know
anyone you expect to die next year that you might talk into going this
instead? (Sounds gruesome but that's the law)
