Open a folder containing simple text messages. Open both the top and bottom panes. Scroll the top pane while watching the new message appear in the bottom pane. With Mozilla the time to change messages is just about instantaneous. With SM it depends on the machine and what else is running. On one machine it takes twenty seconds. The delay is less on a faster machine, less without Flash and less when run from HPFS rather than FAT32, but still measurable. The only plugins I now run are Java 142.5 and Flash 7.63. I have Moz 1.8b1 - 1 Mar 05, and SM 1.0a - 16 Sept 05, and nothing in between. 1.8b1 does not have the delay and 1.0a does. This is with the same profiles and plugins, and different profiles on 4 different machines, running W4 and eCS 1.2rm. I get the delay on all 4 machines I have connected. I am not sure I have found anyone else who gets it at all. I have to assume something changed in the suite between 1.8b1 and 1.0a. We were advised to not use 1.8 but are now advised to use 1.0, so others must think something has changed. Ray Yahoo!
