As Holger wrote "An US gallon is 3.78 litres", I've see that on
Milk bottles
too, and that and the 68F/20C temperature difference are stuck in my head.

I bought Gasoline for my car when I was on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls
and iirc the Gas Pump showed Canadian Gallons (UK Litres) on it.
