Subject: Fast food giants in Randolph-shepherd program
I do know that we have worked with food service consultants in
hopes of training blind vendors as cafeteria managers. Texas is
one state that does this. However, I would be more leery of
doing something like that with the fast food giants. I think
what would happen is that they would agree to train blind people
in order to get their collective feet in the door; then only
train those with partial vision and then once established, they
would ease us out and take over. They want these federal
facilities very badly and we had to protect them back in 1983.
If we let them in there would be no more Randolph-shepherd
program to speak of inside of just a few years. We would be back
to selling candy, cigarettes and newspapers just like it was in the
early days.
