I can understand why he jumped into your thoughts with that description.

A girl friend of mine gave birth a couple of weeks before Ariel was born (I
met this lady during La Maze classes). The baby was born with what laymen
(you and I) call "water on the brain", the medical term is hydro
encephalitis (sp?). The doctors put a shunt in the baby's head and drained
off the fluid, the baby stabilized enough for the hospital to release her.
Unfortunately she didn't live even 6 months.
